At AerAqua Project, we focus on the study of aircraft wrecks and other significant aviation artifacts to gain a better understanding of the past.

Our Mission

The AerAqua Project (an educational, scientific not-for-profit organization) serves as a global outlet for the archaeological study and interpretation of aeronautical cultural resources. The organization advocates for the protection of these resources by educating the public and policy makers and by creating reference materials for professionals engaged in archaeological studies of aeronautical cultural resources.

  • Goal 1: Organize and assist with archaeological investigations of potentially significant historical aeronautical sites including wrecks both on land and underwater, relict airfields, and buildings or structures associated with aviation.

  • Goal 2: Assemble a bibliography of historical documentary records pertaining to the history of aviation within the United States and disseminate findings for future researchers.

  • Goal 3: Create reference materials for archaeological researchers which will assist in the identification of aircraft wrecks, similar to those reference guides which detail ship construction.

  • Goal 4: Engage in academic discourse on the study of aeronautical cultural resources through participation in professional archaeological conferences, submissions to academic peer-reviewed journals, and hosting educational workshops for the archaeological community.

  • Goal 5: Educate the public about aeronautical archaeology and aviation history through presentations at historical societies, civic groups, and other community associations.

  • Goal 6: Form a Council on Aeronautical Archaeology which will serve as an outlet for aeronautical archaeology research and collaboration. The council will also establish a peer-reviewed journal and organize an ongoing series of international aviation archaeology conferences. Additionally, the council will review legislative decisions relating to aeronautical cultural resources and make recommendations based on the residing members’ experience and knowledge of the subject matter.
